Canadian Council of the Blind Manitoba Division
Who Are We?
The Canadian Council of the Blind Manitoba Division is a non for profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of Manitobans who are blind or vision impaired by offering a variety of programs and chapter activities. These programs and activities focus on providing positive information and experiences to Manitobans living with vision loss.
Programs and Chapter Activities
Peer Support
- Promotion of the innovative use of adaptive technology to enhance day-to-day life experience and employment opportunities.
- Training is offered for blind and vision impaired people wishing to take advantage of adaptive technology.
- The L.P. Ings Scholarship Award Program is offered to blind or vision impaired Manitobans who are furthering their personal growth through education.
- Curling and Bowling Programs that promote physical activity and friendly competition.
- Cribbage Program offers a friendly social activity that gather on a bi-weekly basis.
- Winnipeg and District Chapter offers peer support for the senior population through concerts and a variety of other common interest activities.
Public Education
See If You Can Program
Presentations to various groups, schools, organizations and service clubs to promote the abilities of people who are blind or vision impaired.
Advocacy
- Advocate on specific issues of interest to people with disabilities.
- Promote the abilities of Manitobans who are blind or vision impaired through various White Cane Week activities. Every year White Cane Week occurs on the first full week in February.
- Working with other groups and organizations to create a better understanding of people who are blind or vision impaired and assist in breaking down the barriers that they face in day to day living.
- Promote accessibility rights legislation through our membership in Barrier Free Manitoba.
The Canadian Council of the Blind Manitoba Division is working hard on creating public awareness on the abilities of people living with various degrees of vision loss. Life can be full and very rewarding for everyone, if given the opportunity to get an education, work, play and live as an equal. The barriers can be eliminated. Just ask us how!
